Keep them from destroying the house (and each other) by creating some homemade messes. From finger paint to bubbles, these ideas are sure to ignite a creative spark and warm up a dreary winter day. You're the best judge of your twins/multiples -- be sure you provide a safe, washable play area because things might get messy! Goop is a gooey, globby substance made with glue and Borax. It's easy to mix up for some quick-n-dirty indoor fun. Be sure to cover all exposed play surfaces with newspaper or waxed paper, because it will stain. Have kids wear old clothes and wipe up any spills immediately. This activity is recommended for kids over age five; the concoction is not edible, so be sure kids don't put it near their mouths. While you've got the Borax out, try some creative chemistry in the kitchen! Create a snowflake in a jar using pipecleaners, string and a Borax/water mixture. The project needs to stand overnight, so plan accordingly. All kids love play dough! And making it from scratch is a great project for busy twin hands who like to knead and mix. This is a non-cooked version; it won't last very long, but it is much easier to make and utilizes common ingredients that you're likely to keep in your pantry. Consider tinting portions in different colors so that there is no arguing over whose dough is whose! There is just something so joyful about blowing bubbles. Soap bubble residue can stain, so find an appropriate indoor location -- perhaps the bathtub? The best homemade bubble solution does require glycerin; this is usually available from a pharmacy or drugstore. Usually the bubbles work best after the solution has a chance to sit undisturbed, so consider mixing it up ahead of time and keeping it on hand for a rainy (or snowy) day. Finger painting is a craft that can be enjoyed be even the youngest children. Sit twinfants in their high chairs and cover the trays with waxed paper or white paper to provide a painting surface. Follow the recipe link for instructions on making homemade paint, or try this easy -- and delicious -- method: prepare chocolate pudding according to package directions, spread on a tray and paint away!
