Thrifty Thursday: I Like These Links

Thursday June 11, 2009
When my twins were babies, one of our favorite toys was a set of links that I received as a shower gift.

It was a favorite for me for their longevity as well as their practicality. They were one of the first toys that my twins ever "played" with as babies. They loved to grasp the plastic rings and eventually moved on to trying to bring the rings to their mouths. Once they were old enough to sit up, they would sit with a pile of links between them and pass them back and forth. They continued to play with as toddlers, sorting them by color and shape, and turning them into imaginary characters that participated with their other toys.

I found plenty of practical uses for the links as well. We linked them onto the stroller to secure toys, pacifiers and sippy cups. We clipped them on the lattice walls of our play yard to attach toys. During the holidays, the play yard stood guard around our Christmas tree to keep curious toddlers away, and we used the links to affix child-friendly ornaments around the base.

These links are fun -- and they're also economical toys for twins. You can purchase a pack of Sassy Lively Links (compare prices) for less than $5.00. With 8 links, there are still plenty for infant twins to share between them. Or buy in bulk: Link 'n' Learn Links (compare prices). It's still a bargain at around $20 for 500 links (enough to last through the preschool years, even with twins!)

Love those things! I don’t think we have those particular ones – I think ours are Fisher Price. Same idea, with so many great uses! We attached toys to strollers, car seats, highchairs, just about everything with those things.
