A little bit of this...
- ...and a little bit of that. My husband and I had been separated for 15 months. In a final plea I prayed to God to give me a sign on if we should get back together or file for divorce. I have PCOS, and I was on birth control, and after a day of talking things over, we ended up spending the night together. 3 weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. Talk about shocked. When I went in for my first U/S, the tech didn't say a word, he just changed the fetal number to 2. My husband and I both have twins that run in our families. My father is a twin, and he has 3 sets in his generation on his side. So we should not have been shocked, but you could have pushed us over with a feather. We are now 17 weeks, and just found out that they are identical twin boys. My prayers were answered and I'm going to have 2 little miracles.

3rd time around twins
- I had twins the third time i got pregnant. Twins do run on my side of the family but none on my husband's side. Great grandmother on my mother's side had identical twins. Her sister had identical twins. Then great grandmother had one of her daughters who had boy/girl (fraternal) twins who are 47 now. No one else had twins until i found out i was having twin boys. They will be 2 in a month. Love them but they are definitely a handful along with my other 2 children.

my thoughts...
- I think it is the both mom&dad that determine whether or not you conceive twins. If the mother has fraternal twins, and one is a boy. He will carry her gene and can possibly pass it to his daughter. The same can be said for identical twins. as our children carry both genes from mom & dad. I also believe that there are many cases where it is a spontaneous-split in the cell to create identical twins. what other explanation is there when there are no evidence of inherits, just as a woman can spontaneously ovulate two eggs causing fraternal. It is all a matter of chance. having it in your gene simply enhances you chances of conceiving twins.

Got lucky????
- I have no twins in my family anywhere... So they were a huge surprise! I am 25 and my b/g twins are four months old. My oldest was 13 months when I got pregnant and I wasn't breastfeeding (had stopped months earlier). My mom's ob/gym thought that I actually started out as a twin but that she miscarried the other baby in the first trimester. I am so blessed to have my twins! They are beautiful and they are perfect babies! I got lucky in every facet of the word!

over 35
- I'm 38, so it seems that my ovaries released more than one egg at a time (a natural compensation for decreasing fertility)

My Twins
- I'm 21 years old and a mother of a boy/girl twins that are now 15 months old. I had a first pregnancy that I ended up miscarrying, then 6 months later, I ended up getting pregnant again. My husband and I went to get an ultrasound, and the technician took a long time looking at my scan. After about a half an hour, she had me look and I immediately knew what it was. I told her that it was a good practical joke, and she told me that she wasnt lying. I started crying, and they brought my husband in(and he was a worried wreck anyway) and his jaw dropped and he teared up. The funny part of this story is that I'm the oldest of 3 girls, the younger two are a set of fraternal twins. Twins run on both sides of my family, and on both sides of my husbands family. Its a lot of work, but its completely worth it. I love waking up to them, and doing everything with them. They are the complete joys of my life, and even though I am a young mother, I wouldnt change it for the world.

Was it really the sweet potatoes?
- My husband and I went back and forth about wanting children.I thought if I may be content without them, but did not want to regret it.We decided that we would try one time to get pregnant.I knew when I was ovulating, I knew what season I wanted to give birth, and I knew what day was optimal to conceive.I had always wanted to twins so I did read a little about how to increase your chances. There is a small village in Nigeria that 4xs the amount of twins than any other place in the world. They believe it is a chemical in vegetable that they eat. This vegetable is in the same family as sweet potatoes. I ate them every night the week before we were going to try. I found out I was pregnant in August. I was very sick for the first 10 weeks. I did not have an initial ultrasound. So, for 20 weeks I only had a feeling that I MAY be carrying twins.I even questioned the doctors when they found heartbeats in different places. At the gender ultrasound we were shocked to hear "Honey, your having 2

Shock
- I had identical girls. I was told that if a mother witnesses a horrific event, something that involves life and death, that the "survival mode" of the human species causes twin. About the time the egg would have "split", I witnessed my father have a horrific accident. He survived, with a brain injury, thankfully, but I will always believe that my body responded to this primal need to maintain the human population/survival.

Age of Twins
- I have twins girls now three and half, there is no history on twins on either side of our family. My consultant advised as I was over the age of 35 my chances of having twins increased. It is Mother Natures way of using up your eggs. He also said teenage mothers had a higher chance of having twins. Must be something to do with hormones.

Funny (but not real) reason I had twins
- I was 30 when I got pregnant with my twin boys. I already had two children ages 4 and 2. My husband and I wanted more children. In fact, he wanted four children. I had always wanted three. I told him one day that they only way we would every have four children is if I had twins...less than a year later I got pregnant and found out at my 12 week visit it was twins. We found out that my great aunt had twins and his great-uncle had twins...not many in the family, but a little I guess. It was extremely difficult at first, but now that they are seven it is soooo much easier. When they were born, their oldest brother was still four and my daughter was 3. We got many stares and comments in public. I can't believe I did not tell off the 100th person that said, "Wow, you really have your hands full!"

Why I Had Twins
- I was 30 years old and my husband and I thought it was time to have kids. I stopped taking the pill, started "trying". A month or two later I was pregnant. When I went for my ultrasound, there they were side by side. The doctor said when you stopped taking the pill abruptly, my eggs went crazy, I could have had triplets, quads. He said the same with blood pressure medicine, if you abruptly stop taking it, your blood pressure will shoot up. So, if you want multiples, stop taking the pill abruptly (with no other birth contriol), start "trying". This is not scientific, but it worked for me!! Good luck!!

Lucky Twin Mom
- Finding out I was pregnant was a shock! We were not trying to get pregnant - in fact I was on the pill! My doctor confirmed, and sent me for an ultrasound to confirm that it was tubal since I had some pains. We were still in shock that we were pregnant. Then tech starting 'twin talk' - do they run in your family etc, then she said "I can't 100% confirm this, as the Dr. will review, but I see two sacs." I went home and showed hubby a pic, actual conversation as he looked: "What is this?" " The baby." "What is this?" "Another baby!" My grandmother was a twin, and there have been 3 other sets born on the maternal side of the family.
