All About My Multiples: Pregnancy & Birth

Paul and Vincent were born 8 weeks early, and spent the first 4 weeks of their lives in NICU at Children's Hospital. It was scary, but thankfully, there were no major problems. Paul was 4lbs, 11oz., and Vincent was 3lbs. 12oz., and they were both 19 inches long. We were told that we could take Paul home on Feb. 13, 2009, which was a Friday. On Feb. 12th, the doctor came in and said, "I hope you have everything ready for both of your babies. Happy Valentine's Day, you can take both your boys home with you tomorrow morning!" It was the best Valentine's Day present I could ever get!

My Multiples Are Special Because...

We were told 5 years prior to becoming pregnant with our twins that we couldn't have children, so we never expected to get pregnant, much less with twins! We have decided that it was karma, as my sister had just had a set of identical twin boys in March 2008, and when she told me she was having twins, my response was "It will be ok, twins are wonderful!" She said, "Yeah, why?", I said, "Because they're not mine!" When we found out we were pregnant, the first thing everyone in the family said we were having twins, and sure enough, they were right! They are a such a joy and a blessing, and we thank God every day that we have them!

Advice

  • Take help when it's offered, and ask for it when you need it! Having twins is a wonderful thing, but is a lot of work! Be patient with yourself, and with them. Take a break from the kids at least once a week, even if it's just for an hour. A little "me time" goes a long way in keeping your sanity!
