By Pamela Prindle Fierro, About.com

Names:

Ursula, Shannon, Karla, Kerrie (died July 20, 2009), Austin and Eoghan

Birthdate:

May 22, 2009

Hometown:

Dunmore in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

Birth Info:

The babies were delivered by cesarean section at Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The four girls and two boys weighed between 1 lb., 7 oz. and 2 lb., 2 oz. and were fourteen weeks premature.

Family Info:

Nuala Conway was 26 when she delivered sextuplets. Her husband, Austin, is a kitchen fitter. The couple were married in 2006. They conceived the babies after Nuala took a mild fertility drug to stimulate her ovaries. When she became pregnant, they were told they were having twins, and did not discover that there were sextuplets until about three months before the babies were born. The couple are devout Roman Catholics and did not follow medical advice to terminate the pregnancy.

More Info:

The two boys are thought to be identical twins. The births were the first recorded sextuplets in Ireland. Unfortunately, baby Kerrie Mae, the last born and smallest sextuplet, passed away on July 20, 2009.
