Cool off when the weather heats up by making snow cones, a favorite summertime treat for twins and multiples.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10 minutes
Here's How:
- Combine sugar and Kool-Aid drink powder.
- Add cold water, stirring to complete dissolve.
- Combine 2 cups cold water and approximately 2 cups ice cubes in a blender.
- Run blender on frappe setting, until ice is consistently crushed and slushy.
- Spoon crushed ice into cups.
- Pour flavoring mixture over each cup of crushed ice.
Tips:
- You can also make crushed ice by putting it in a heavy-duty zip top plastic bag and pounding it with a mallet or hammer. Electric or hand-cranked ice shavers are also available. They are worth the investment if you prefer a smoother, less granular texture in your snow cones.
- Put the liquid flavoring into a squeeze bottle. It will minimize the mess of pouring the flavoring over the ice and allow you to make more artistic snow cones. Better yet, fill two squeeze bottles (or three, if you have triplets} with different flavorings. Your multiples won't have to wait for a turn, and you can make rainbow-effect snow cones.
- Move the whole process outside for easy clean up.
What You Need:
- 1 envelope of unsweeted Kool-Aid powdered drink mix
