Question: Breastfeeding Multiples FAQ: What's the Best Position for Breastfeeding Twins?

Answer: There are several different positions for breastfeeding two babies simultaneously. For infant twins, the football hold works well, especially for mothers who have delivered via cesarean section. This position keeps the bulk of the babies away from the tender incision site. Lay the babies on pillows so that their heads are positioned at the height of the breasts. The mother wraps her arms around the baby, cradling their heads for support. Their bodies and feet extend around the mother's side, pointing towards her back. (Picture of football hold.) As the twins get bigger, the parallel, or “spoons” hold is convenient.
