SIDS and Twins

Friday December 28, 2007
SIDS ... Such a simple-sounding acronym, yet these four little letters represent a parent's most terrifying nightmare, the unexplained death of an infant. Because many of the risk factors for SIDS, especially premature birth, low birth weight, and bed sharing, are commonly associated with twins and multiples, they are particularly at risk. Here's some important information for parents:

  • READ about the connection between Twins and SIDS.
  • WATCH this video about reducing the risk.
  • Put your mind at ease. SIDS is actually a relatively rare phenomenon. While not entirely preventable, the rate of SIDS has been cut in half in recent years by changing the ways that babies sleep. Check out these safely sleeping siblings in the Sleeping Twins Photo Gallery.
