Manar Maged Dies From Brain Infection

Sunday March 26, 2006
Reuters News Service reports that Manar Maged passed away on Saturday in Cairo, due to a severe infection in her brain. The Egyptian girl was born with an underdeveloped twin attached at the head, a condition described as craniopagus parasiticus, a rare form of conjoined twinning. A thirteen-hour procedure in February 2005 successfully separated Manar Maged from her underdeveloped twin, who was capable of blinking and smiling but not independently sustainable. Manar Maged would have been two years old on Thursday, March 30th.
