The Cat In The Hat
Monday December 8, 2003
Have you seen the new movie starring Mike Myers? If you're a fan of the classic children's storybook, you may be disappointed. This quick overview was written by my brother Jon. It gave me a laugh, and I hope you enjoy it as well.
Here's a poor stab at retelling the wonderful tale
'cause Mike Myer's poor taste and crude jokes really fail.
I saw it today without my kids with me
I'm glad that they missed it. This cat is NOT nifty.
Though the scenes are impressive, Seuss's rhymes are omitted,
And the crude sense of humor used throughout is just wicked.
The colors and characters are too over the top.
The action and wild pandemonium don't stop.
"Disappointed?" you ask. "Yes I am" I must say
Both Shrek and Austin Powers were great in their way.
--Why not pull it off with the Cat in the Hat?
Mike Myers has talent, but here he went flat.
We all wanted to see this myth live on the screen
But this Cat's inappropriate, if you know what I mean.
It's not good like the Grinch, or Scissorhands either
It's NOT like the book so don't go to the theater.
Shame on you Bad Cat! Dropping in to a Rave?
With young Paris Hilton? Not whimsy -- Depraved.
He leers at the Mother, predictably coughes up a hairball.
He's "lactose intolerant"; revels in mayhem for all.
With adult flavored jokes both banal and crude
this movie comes off "not for kids" and just rude.
This Cat is not funny, this story not true
to its roots in the Dr. Seuss book we all knew.
I wanted a myth, a funny family time
How about one solid attempt at a rhyme?
Most of all gone is the sense of good fun.
It's not wonderfully silly -- real laughs? Almost none.
Not whimsical. No, what I saw disappointed me so.
I came home to write this, and now you can know.
The jokes are just slapstick, they're oafish, not funny--
Makes me feel like they made it to take home our money.
