Is The Bugaboo Donkey The Perfect Double Stroller for Twins?

The Bugaboo Donkey stroller hit stores this month and it's generating a lot of buzz, perhaps for its hefty price tag as much as its unique features.

It's certainly a interesting concept, a stroller that can convert from a single to double stroller, and work equally as well for one child, two siblings, or twins. It has all the features that you might crave in a double stroller, such as generous storage space, sun canopies, adjustable handle and air-filled tires. It can function as a travel system, accommodating two infant seats. (An adapter for Graco SnugRide seats will be available next month). The seats can recline and reverse to face forward or back. Weighing in at 33 pounds, it is neither the lightest nor the heaviest double stroller on the market, and folds up compactly enough to fit in most cars.

But all this marvelous mobility comes at a price. A high price. The estimated retail price for the Bugaboo Donkey is $1679. Almost as much as a used car. That price does not include infant seats or the adapters for use with infant seats. It does include the chassis, 2 bassinets, 2 canopies, a storage basket and some other accessories. But you'll still have to assemble it.

What do you think? Is the Bugaboo Donkey the must-have double stroller for twins, at any price? Or are there better double strollers on the market that are more of a bargain? Leave a comment to share your thoughts.

Living in Europe we are used to these prices. I paid for the Mountain Buggy double stroller the same and no bassinets or accessories were included!

If i would have twins again I would consider it!

wow – that’s crazy! I thought paying over $1000 for my City Select for my twins was high….but some people will pay anything to have the latest name brand stroller!!

I used a Maclarren Twin Techno since birth, but this is becoming unrealistic now they are 3, and 11-14kg.. this was also very tricky in Canadian winters where ice and snow are regular. It has been super to have something so light and compact, however it is somewhat Heath Robinson to unfold and refold… also various nuts and bolts have come lose or fallen off with regular storeage in the car and daily outings.. So I was interested to see the Donkey. Now I am used to this kind of weight with the kids themselves, but the price still seems quite hefty – I look forward to reading what others have to say, who have tried it..

Hey how about taking half the price of the donkey duo and giving it to some starving twins in Africa. You have got to be kidding me.
