Forum Friday: Twins in Same Class at School

Katrine says: "For this coming school year, I asked the principal in writing to have them in the same class room! She did NOT like it. She believes that it's bad for their individual development... I wanted them in the same class so I can keep helping both kids when I volunteer in school..."

Even though it is summer break for many families, the issue of classroom placement is a hot topic for parents as they look ahead to the next school year. Unfortunately, many parents will encounter this same kind of resistance when they make a request regarding the placement of their twins. Considering that the former president of the National Association of Elementary School Principals advocated against legislation giving parents input into the decision, it is not uncommon for school administrators to cling to outdated, unproven stereotypes about multiples and choose to enforce separation rather than take parental input into consideration.
