Parent's Poll: How Alike Are Your Twins?

Monday April 13, 2009
Many people have a stereotype that being a twin means being alike. Parents of twins and multiples know that this isn't necessarily so; twins are individuals. However, many twins share similar characteristics, from physical appearance to personality to preferences. What about your twins? Take this week's Parent's Poll and talk about your twins. Use the comments link to explain your answer.

(1) AJ says:

I cannot tell the personalities of my 9-month old twins apart and at a quick glance, I can’t distinguish one twin from the other either. This may change as they grow.

(2) Susan M. Heim says:

My 3-year-old twin boys couldn’t be more different. Perhaps it’s because they’re fraternal. They look similar (both blond-haired and blue-eyed), but they have different facial features. And their personalities are extremely dissimilar. One’s a good eater; one is not. One loves reading; the other is into play and action. I could go on and on as to how different they are! I love watching their two very different personalities grow. It will be fun to see how they develop as they get older.

(3) JLinda says:

My girl/boy twins are complete opposites though I have never thought of it in that way until now. My girl Erica is smaller and has brown hair and brown eyes. My son John is bigger and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is extremely sensitive and delicate, screams very easily and always wants her mommy. My son is very easy going, only cries if hungry or tired and will play with anyone. Erica hates to eat while John will eat anything put in his mouth. Erica doesnīt sleep well while John will sleep the whole night. Itīs really mind boggling how these two are twins but at times they love to play and cuddle with eachother and then their twinness really shines!

(4) Adrian says:

Our 9 month old boys are very different. Cody does commando crawling. Alfie does 4*4 crawling generally over his brother. Alfie can concentrate for ages on 1 toy, Cody chews them up and spits out in seconds.

Since day 1 they have been different with 1 being better at sleeping and the other better at eating.

The 1 thing they both have in common – they both love cuddles. :o )

(5) Melanie says:

My four year old identical girls are difficult to tell apart physically, but when it comes to their personalities… well, it’s as if Skye has some serious opera going on in there, Flight of the Valkyries stuff, while Shannon has a Monty Python Marching Band!!!

(6) Melissa says:

My monozygotic twin boys look very much alike. They are now 25 and over the years have developed very different personalities, yet can also be very similar personality-wise. They do seem to know when something is going on with the other. They are virtually inseparable. They work together and even live in the same apartment complex!

(7) Karen says:

My 4 year old twins Ethan and Gorie have been so much alike, even since birth. They ate at the same time, pooped at the same time, slept at the same time, rolled over at the same age, sat up at the same age, crawled, walked, etc all at the same age. They ate solids at the same age, learned to talk at the same age and have stayed half a pound and half an inch apart since birth. There are slight differences in their facial features but overall most people have difficulty telling them apart!
