Do You Ever Feel Like a Celebrity?
Saturday October 13, 2007
Do you ever feel like a celebrity being stalked by the paparazzi when you're out with your multiples? Twins, and especially higher order mulitples attract a lot of attention. People stare; they point. They talk about you, and sometimes they even talk to you. Often they feel compelled to ask questions. Sometimes it's fun -- who doesn't enjoy showing off their children? But when you're in a hurry, or the babies are fussy, or you just want to enjoy some quiet time with your family, it can really be annoying.

Sometimes it takes forever to get through the store. So sometimes when I see people out of the corner of my eye who are pointing or stop and do a doubletake I just pretend I don’t notice and keep walking really quickly. Our twins are two months old so people are especially interested because they are so small. I get particularly annoyed when people make a fuss over the babies and pay absolutely no attention to my 3 year old. I think I might put a sign on the stroller that says “It’s ok to pay attention to our brother!” That’s not my idea, I heard it somewhere-I just can’t remember where.
When we stroll through Ontario Mills Mall or Victoria Gardens, there is always someone interested in my two year old twin boys. I feel like the glass blower at Knotts Berry Farm! al ot of attention? Yep. However, I’am a guy, so I love the attention. Also, my four year old daughter loves to show them off. I’am not looking forward to the day when these moments end.
People do feel compelled to comment, which
I think just goes to show how magical having more than one baby actually is. I am awe struck when I realize “wow I have two!”
My twin boys don’t look alike and I have had people argue with me about them being twins. I even had one woman say to me that “they are not twins!” When people say to me ‘double trouble’ I always reply ‘not really, I find it double the fun’. Some people are really nice about it and make a big fuss over the boys (who are now 15 months).
People will stop me and ask if my three yeor-old girls are twins. When I say they are and this is their older sister, Sabrina, they usually reply with “Oh, three girls! God Bless You!” To which I reply, “Oh, yes! He DID!! Thank you!!”
Every time I’m stopped by a comment, it reminds me of how blessed I am. These days will not last forever, so I take in every moment, every word, every smile that my babies give on-lookers. I’ve never smiled so much and said “thank you” so much.
I have 3 1/2 year old twin girls. It is fun sometimes when people stare and point. It was really fun at first, the girls are my first children.People can be very nice. However, there are times when people can be annoying and very rude. One time at the grocery store a lady in front of me at the check-out line looks at the girls in the cart and says,” twins huh, I’d shoot myself”. I just ignored her. Why would someone say something like that? People say to me often,”bless you”. Even though my girls are a handful, my husband and I prayed for one and God blessed us with two. We are truly blessed!!!
I have 15 month old fraternal twin sons. I usually smile and thank people but don’t slow down too much while they comment. On rare occasion I’ll meet someone and chat with them for a few minutes (It’s nice to talk to adults!) and I have gotten the occasional rude comment. I don’t let those slow me down. Obviously those folks have no clue and it’s not worth my (limited!!!) time to get upset.
I mostly love the attention my fratural twin boys have always attracted. I have’nt really gotten rude comments at all, just curious friendly people. I had one lady say ” Oh Irish twins, how far apart in age are they?” I replied, “one minute.” My son Sam has always been taller and heavier than Jess, so I can see how people would think they were’nt twins, but most people guess they are. My boys are now 10 and they don’t seem to mind the attention, they like to fool people.
