Big Twins!

By , About.com GuideJune 15, 2006

Follow me on:

A set of twins born in Utah this week weighed a combined seventeen pounds. KSL.com reports that Dakota and Dillan Lyon weighed 10 pounds 4 ounces and 6 pounds 13 ounces, respectively. They were delivered by cesarean section on Wednesday, June 14th in Logan, Utah. Mom, Monica, surmises that their generous size may be due to her own height. She is 6 feet 3 inches tall.

Although the Utah boys are large, they'e nowhere near record breaking. According to the Facts About Multiples website, the largest twins ever born weighed more than twenty-seven pounds combined. Patricia and John Haskin, born in Arkansas in 1924, weighed 14 pounds and 13 pounds, 12 ounces respectively.

For real!! My twins weighed about 15 pounds combined and were born at 39 weeks. What’s the big deal about 17 pounds? And I’m only 5′4″. Now the woman with the 27pounds, that is just crazy!!

My twins,Kimberly and Monica, born January 23, 1987 were One month premature weighing in at 8lbs 2 oz and 7lbs 1oz with a total of 41 inches in height. I was told that if I had gone full term of 40 weeks they would have easily been 10 and 11 pounds. Although they were early and twins with slight learning delays…they are both working on their Bachelors Degrees and on the Deans list. What a gift they are!

(12) Cindy says:

Wow! My twins were born two days before Christmas in 2003. They were a planned c-section at 38 weeks (cause I had a section for my 1st breech son). She weighed 6 lbs 3 oz & he weighed 5 lbs 15 oz. Never experienced labor in either pregnancies & all 3 were breech. Anyhow, I am 5′7-1/2″ with a somewhat small frame & was so uncomfortable that 9th month! Can’t imagine having carried any longer or bigger – augh! People thought my twins were good size! But these twins take the cake! My twins also walked & talked late but now at 4 1/2 are quite caught up & very smart!

In October 2007, I gave birth to twin boys that weighed 9lb 11oz and 8lb 5oz both 21 inches long. People were so shocked and had never heard of such tremendous twins. Obviously this is not so uncommon. Great job to all you ladies, I know it wasn’t easy carrying all that weight. My body is a mess though, any good advice or is a tummy tuck in my future????

(14) Amy Ederington says:

I am due Dec. 2. So far my twins are measureing just as large as singletons measure. I pray that mine will be large like many of yours! It is scary to think about babies being under 6 lbs each. Congrats to you all!

(15) Renee says:

I delivered twins by c-section on October 28, 2009. They were 10 lbs 5 oz and 7 lbs 4 oz. I am almost 6 ft but it was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done to carry them to 37 weeks! I don’t think I realized how difficult and how huge I was until after things in my body started to get back to “normal”… If there will be such a thing now. :)

(16) Valerie says:

My two boys were born by c-section in Jan.99 and Tyler weighed in at 8lbs 5 1/2 oz and Josh was 8lbs 3 1/2 oz. I went 10 days overdue because everything was going so well and I was confident that my body would take care of them, I did not want to have a section just because I was having twins. I am 5′9″ and my 1st son was well over 9 1/2 lbs so I knew they would be bigger. They are now a strapping 125lbs at 10 years old. We grow em big up here in Canada…

I had fraternal twin sons 24 years ago that were 12 days overdue. They were born naturally, without anesthesia, the 2nd one being born breach. Their weights were (1st) 8 lbs. 13 1/2 oz., and (2nd) 9 lbs. 12 oz. The labor was only 1 hr. and 35 minutes long and both were healthy then and are still very healthy today. God takes care how he chooses.

Hey everyone. It’s great finding this blog, and all your big twin weights.

My twin boys are 4 months old now, and were born 2wks early weighing 7Ibs 13 and 8Ibs 13. I was a bit of a record breaker in my county, and I haven’t yet come across anyone in my area with bigger twinnies.

It’s lovely to read about ladies who really know what it’s like to carry so much baby! My second child was born 16wks prem too due to incompetent cervix, so it was a real achievement to grow my twins so well – albeit with the help of a cervical stitch x

I had my b/g twins in 1999. My daughter topped the scales at 10 lbs 7.6 oz and my son was 7lbs 11 oz. Had a planned c section and I was 39 weeks and 5 days. 12 years later they are now taller than I am!

July 12, 2011 at 2:46 pm
(28) Angela says:

My b/g twins were delivered at 38.5 weeks. Boy, 7 lbs 12 oz, girl was 7 lbs 2 oz. both 21 inches. I am 5 ft 9 and measured at 52 inches. Destroyed my abdominal muscles. I had a 4 inch separation, and had corrective surgery when they were 22 months old.
Had to have over 500 internal stitches to repair the muscles. Best thing I ever did, my stomach looks like it did when I was a teenager, would recommend it to anybody. If you can get through the pain of a twin pregnancy, you can do this!
