Reuters News Service reports that Manar Maged passed away on Saturday in Cairo, due to a severe infection in her brain. The Egyptian girl was born with an underdeveloped twin attached at the head, a condition described as craniopagus parasiticus, a rare form of conjoined twinning. A thirteen-hour procedure in February 2005 successfully separated Manar Maged from her underdeveloped twin, who was capable of blinking and smiling but not independently sustainable. Manar Maged would have been two years old on Thursday, March 30th.

I just saw the Bodyshock documentary and wanted to know what happened to Manar. I looked on google and found so many news sites saying she had died. So very sad!
You could see she was different after the operation. Clearly they had to operate or she would’ve died but she was such a pretty baby and it’s so very sad. She had beautiful happy eyes. I was so hoping it was a happy story but sadly not.
My thoughts go out to all her family members, especially her survivng twin and her parents.
Rest in Peace Manar xxx
I am so sad for the family to see Manar passed away, they just aired the show about her operation tonight. Such a sweet, happy little girl.
so sad to read that she died.
saw the documentary just now.
it’s true, she was different after the operation. a light went out in her. but they did an incredible job to succeed with the surgery.
moved and saddened me completely.
RIP little Manar
It is so sad how it all turned out, I was so hoping for a happy ending. The baby survived so much and such major surgery. My thoughts are with the family. What a brave little girl!
Just saw the Bodyshock documentary, and Googled what happened to Manar as the result was not in the program.
This saddened me greatly, and indeed induced tears.
RIP Manar, you were so strong, and RIP Islam, the parasitic twin.
My thoughts are with the family.
awwww! I cant believe she died! i was already sad when the other twin died..i feel soo bad for the parents! imagine what they’re going through, poor Manar
My prayers go out to the family

It is indeed a great great loss. i guess you have to be a parent of a child to understand what this loss means. Whatever happens, happens for the good and in it we must find peace and move on. She was a beautiful child before the surgery and clearly a changed person afterwards. There was definitely damage that was irrevocable and something that would have had put her through more torment in life.
My prayers are with the family.
They were both so cute. Beautiful babies. In the midst of something so tragic were two very beautiful beings.
I just watched the documentary about Manar here in South Africa. I wanted to find out how she was doing and have a look at her progress. I was so shocked to hear that she had passed away.
I could also see that once the operation was done litlle Mnar had changed…
Sad, so sad…may she and Islam (The parasitic twin) rest in peace.
when they made the surgery, they let Islaam died.. just because Manar have the complete body? oh come on.. Islaam’s condition is more sad than Manar.. =
Stll in 2012 Manar is living among us, and her story deeply touches our hearts, with her pretty smile and beautiful look she is an angel …. Rest in Peace Manar…
I have just watched the Bodyshock documentary, and like many others, wondered what happened to Manar.
How sad to hear she passed away, I hope her family are well and that she and Islam are resting in peace.
It was lovely to see that the doctors and nurses did what they could for Manar and her family.
Watched the documentary and in the same way it touched so many other viewers hearts, wanted to, hoped to hear all had turned out well.
So sad, for all. Where to from here?
Perhaps, more can be done for the Benha Childrens hospital – who gave so much to look after this case? And with an entire annual budget of the hospital being – 320,000LE (reported as 300,000 GBP)?
Did anyone else spot the number of children in the shots – who appeared to be waiting for treatment?
I am not advocating any discussion or judgement as to money spent..but in Manar and Islam’s memory.. more so on what could be done now to offer other children some medical attention?
Just a thought…
