Iranian Conjoined Twins Die During Separation Surgery

Tuesday July 8, 2003
Twenty-nine year old conjoined twins, Ladan and Laleh Bijani, passed away Tuesday during a risky surgery intended to separate them. CNN reports that Ladan's circulation failed first, and that her sister, Laleh, died an hour and a half later.

The Iranian sisters were craniopagus conjoined twins, sharing a connection at the head, although they had individual brains. Learn more about these and other conjoined twins.
